» FROM THE DESK OF OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND PRESIDENT
The year 2011 began on a very optimistic note despite hassles of runaway inflation, increasing food/ goods’ prices and unpredictable climate changes, that continue to overshadow the horizon. It is also this time of the year, when speculations in all quarters, go floating around as the Union Budget is announced for the new FY. The expectations of the ‘Aam Janta’ as usual, went up into thin air. In spite of many long deliberations and sessions, the government still continues to make futile efforts to balance the Budget, giving the tax payer the onerous task of budgeting his day to day expenses. The ultimate result is that the common man’s burden just gets heavier by the day.
The world was dismayed and shocked on a Friday afternoon on March 11, with the news that Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake followed by a tsunami that caused immense destruction, claiming thousands of lives and leaving many homeless and grief stricken. Our TV screens displayed the disastrous consequences of the earthquake, revenge of the sea, with waves engulfing open lands, mowing down stretches and wiping out properties and personal belongings. To add to Japan’s woes, the bigger threat of their damaged Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant created a heavier impact on the public mind in view of the likely radiation hazards on Japan and its surrounding regions. Along with this natural calamity, we also had unrest erupting in the Middle East creating much tension, destruction and loss of innocent lives in the war-torn areas of Libya, Bahrain and neighbouring countries.
